To allow for expansion in to other global locations and markets, Unique Japan Tours and Islandbridge Brand Development invited us to look at a new name, logo and visual brand identity, building on their position as the market leader in luxury travel to Japan.
First challenge accepted was the new name, and we came up with 'Oomi' - an abstraction of some of the key Japanese locations instrumental in the original brand journey taken by Unique Japan Tours. Crucial was the ability for the new name to move in to and operate in new markets around the world.
The Oomi logo is designed to hark back to the nostalgia of the glory days of global travel - from the luxury liners of the early twentieth century to the golden age of jet travel in the 50's and 60's. Bespoke typography with a rotated 'O' reminiscent of an airplane window or ship's porthole, all topped off with a stylised companion bird illustration - our Amami Jay.
Next, we introduced a flexible and versatile graphic device based around the Oomi 'O' – which is placed over imagery to accommodate messaging or to contain photography. We edited images, adding colour filters evocative of the wider Oomi colour palette, conveying a sense of luxury, style and adventure - all things which set Oomi apart. Next, a considered typographic system using multiple weights and styles added a contemporary, stylish and global tone to the text.
The brand new Oomi logo design and visual identity, image usage and sub-brands equip Oomi with the visual tools they need to establish themselves as a top player in the global luxury travel sector. And with a comprehensive asset toolkit – including brand guidelines and an extensive suite of regional and promotional design solutions - they have everything they need to roll out the new Oomi visual language across the whole world.
